The group’s name comes from a beloved poem by Mary Oliver.  Her work, refreshingly direct yet evocative and stimulating, resembles the kind of musical performances we want to present in Hamilton.  Oliver writes:

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

The poet here evokes a rich, untidy, mysterious world that includes us all.  We believe that classical music is for everyone, and should also include the voices of people from diverse cultural backgrounds, genders, sexualities, and socio-economic strata, people of various ages and educational levels.

Wild geese have their own personalities and are not bound by the strictures of domestication, as a farmyard goose might be; yet they still instinctively know how to cooperate with one another by flying in a V formation as they migrate.  Similarly, our chamber ensemble is comprised of musicians with strong individual personalities that are nevertheless able to work together seamlessly, producing a distinctive whole.
